Pre-Congress Masterclasses

Wednesday, 17th May at Hull Royal Infirmary

To be held on Wednesday, 17th May 2017 in the Clinical Skills Centre, Hull Royal Infirmary.

Hull Royal Infirmary is a central city hospital 5 minutes from the railway station, 10 minutes from the City Hall on foot. There is public parking opposite.

  • Simulation in gynaecological surgery, factors which can make the difference.

This will include scenarios, when something happens what do you and the team do and human factors training.

“It’s rare for healthcare professionals to work with the intention of causing harm and yet untoward incidents still occur. The role of human factors in adverse events has long been acknowledged in other industries but is now being increasingly recognised within the NHS and, as highlighted in the Francis Report and the Berwick Report, there is a drive to not only increase understanding of these but also to develop the non-technical skill set. This immersive workshop is designed to enhance understanding of the influence of Human Factors through a series of clinical situations relevant to the gynaecological endoscopist. The Hull institute of Clinical Skills and Simulation is a well established centre of excellence for clinical skills and simulation training running successful local, regional, and national training courses.”

This pre-congress masterclass will be run by Dr Purva Makani Deputy CMO and Simulation training Officer, Hull Royal Infirmary.

Places limited to 20-30 delegates only.

  • Hysteroscopy simulation training

The hysteroscopy workshop is an opportunity to get simulation training for operative hysteroscopic procedures. It will includes a couple of presentations on outpatient hysteroscopy procedures and then workshops covering endometrial resections, ESSURE, ablation procedures and Myosure.

This pre-congress masterclass will be run by Mrs Jane Allen, Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist and Clinical Director for Women’s Health, Hull Royal Infirmary.

  • Making laparoscopic surgery happen and be financially viable in the modern NHS.

How do I get that latest piece of equipment, when everybody says there is no money?

The aim of this workshop is to give the delegates the understanding and the tools to be in a strong position to negotiate, how to make their operating environment as they would want. In particular, when money is really difficult in the NHS. This will be a useful course for those who are frustrated with the current system as well as those who just don’t know where to start when they see the bright new shinny piece of equipment on the stand at a conference. Company representatives may also find it useful as this will help them understand the difficulties everybody in the NHS faces. This will include sessions on what surgeons want, what managers want and what companies want, different contract possibilities and how you bring all these possibilities together to present the case in your hospital.

This pre-congress masterclass will be run by Mr Kevin Phillips, Chief Medical Officer, Hull Royal Infirmary.

Places limited to 20-30 delegates only.
